The Importance of Business Continuity: Surviving a Disaster or Crash
One of the most critical things a business can have in place these days is an emergency disaster plan. While no one likes to think about the possibility of disasters, natural disasters such as floods, storms, and earthquakes happen somewhere every day. The residents of Colorado this year never dreamed such a flood would happen to them. Yet it happened right in their own backyards. It came without warning, washing away miles of terrain, highways, and dreams.
As a business owner, you know the importance of business continuity.
What can a business do to prepare for such a possibility? Here are a few ideas of what your business can do, so that you can have a sense of continuity in the event of such a disaster or shutdown of your physical location:
- Have an emergency backup plan in place using cloud computing solutions. Remote servers or cloud computing solutions can be a safe place to house your data in the event of a temporary shutdown or crash, or if your on site data in inaccessible.
- Choose a system with 24/7 IT support in the event of a disaster. You will want to be able to contact a tech support expert if you have a shutdown or down time due to a disaster.
- You want a system that is HIPPAA-compliant. This protects you and your customers by guarding their health-related information. This is required by the FTC and the federal government.
- Choose a remote server located in a flood-free zone. The location of your remote server should be in a safe area, so that your data will always be safe. You also need access to their physical location if it is needed.
- Choose experts in the field of data security. In the event of a disaster or inaccessibility to your information, you need a system of IT professionals who know what to do to keep you going.
Business continuity is at the heart of security. Not only do you need to keep your business going to keep your revenue rolling in. But you also need to know your customers’ critical data is secure and protected, to avoid liabilities with HIPPAA laws and other compliance issues. Trust the experts in the field of data security and get your business continuity plan in place.
